Selection Criteria

When preparing a nomination care should be taken to address the selection criteria.

Core criteria

All nominees should be actively contributing to the CESA Vision and Values

As a guide, some of the following may be relevant:

  • Engagement in life-giving relationships with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Witness to the mission of Catholic education through lived example.
  • “Making a difference” in the lives of students or colleagues or parent through their personal and professional manner.
  • In what role(s) or area(s) has the nominee excelled?

Within the spirit of these awards (as described earlier) how does:

  • The nominee demonstrate service worthy of recognition?
  • The nominee’s work impact on either a particular field, school/parish, Education offices or Catholic education at large?
  • This person stand out from others?

Selection criteria per category

All nominees should meet the criteria of the category for which they are nominated.

AWARD SELECTION CRITERIA

Early Career Teacher (Primary and Secondary)

Five years or less teaching experience

The nominee should:

  1. Demonstrate excellence in teaching which leads to improved educational outcomes.
  2. Make a contribution to improving the life within the school(s) where the nominee works or has worked.
  3. Display potential to become an even more outstanding educator.
  4. Demonstrate initiative in educational programming  

Education Support

The nominee should:

  1. Have made a significant contribution to their school(s) or education offices going beyond the expectations of the role.
  2. Be actively involved in the broader life of the school or education office.

Experienced Teacher (Primary and Secondary)

Six years or more teaching experience

The nominee should:

  1. Have made a significant contribution to Catholic education, beyond that routinely expected of a teacher or education advisor.
  2. Have made a sustained contribution and demonstrated initiative over a number of years.
  3. Have influenced a range of students or others by their contribution to Catholic education.
  4. Display evidence of continued development of skill or contribution.
  5. Have an influence on other professionals or community members.

Inclusive Education

The nominee should:

  1. Demonstrate excellence in teaching practice through high-quality curriculum, pedagogy, assessment and reporting practices, informed by data t personalise learning
  2. Foster a culture of collaboration empowering students and families to have voice and agency regarding their educational experience.
  3. Implement and review adjustments for all students with additional learning needs to ensure full participation in learning.
  4. Demonstrate and lead by example the development of productive and inclusive learning environments across the school through reviewing evidence-based inclusive strategies and exploring new approaches to engage and support all students.
  5. Foster a positive and inclusive school culture that celebrates diversity, promotes understanding and respect.
  6. Delivers and participates in evidence-based professional development to enhance best practices and deepen understanding of inclusive education.

Innovative Program

For a coordinated approach at school or organisation level, fulfilling an educational need or problem

  1. The Program in question should show innovative thinking, planning and action.
  2. The activity should have been sustained over a period of time.
  3. A broad range of students, teachers or community members should be involved.
  4. There should be evidence of assessment of success. Independent evaluation beyond the institution is desirable.
  5. Influence of the activity outside the original institution will weigh in its favour. 

Laudato Si

Open to all staff in schools and CEO offices. Individuals or group initiatives can be nominated for this award.

The nominee:

  1. Can articulate a connection between their faith and their relationship with creation 
  2. Works actively to change hearts and minds to inspire new ways of living 
  3. Leads others in projects that make a difference and shifts perspectives and thinking 
  4. Demonstrates initiative in connecting social and environmental issues (Integral Ecology) 
  5. Develops initiatives that are attentive to environmental concern and promote care for the earth and its resources 
  6. Advocates for social justice action through responding to the cry of the earth and the cry of the poor 

Leadership Excellence

Open to all who show leadership

The nominee should:

  1. Provided witness to the mission of Catholic education over their career.
  2. Have demonstrated a long and sustained contribution to Catholic education covering all core criteria and extending beyond the criteria. 
  3. Have had ongoing active interest and involvement above and beyond general responsibilities of an individual’s role

Note: Educators who are retired are also eligible.

Religious Education Teacher (Primary and Secondary)

The nominee should:

  1. Show passion and enthusiasm for the Religious Education learning area.
  2. Engage students through effective pedagogies underpinned by a contemporary understanding of the Catholic Tradition.
  3. Contextualise Religious Education learning for their students in a way that is relevant, and inclusive of all learners.
  4. Apply CESA’s Crossways Curriculum to design learning which inspires a transformation of head, heart, and hands.
  5. Demonstrate a spirit of generosity in sharing Religious Education skills and understandings with others.

Volunteer 

Unpaid positions

The nominee should:

  1. Have made a significant contribution to in a voluntary capacity over a significant period of time.
  2. Display a long serving dedication to a particular school based or CESA activity or been involved in a range of school or CESA activities
